‘When Finger Pointing Dressed Up as Wisdom’
‘When Finger pointing dressed up as wisdom.’
There is a popular saying. He or she is a mirror of your thoughts. There is truth sitting inside it, and it is not one hundred percent accurate.
Used well, it is a gift. When someone's words trigger a strong reaction, the mirror asks a good question. ‘How come this affects me so much?’ Often, it points to an old fear, belief of your own, and more that is ready to be announced and healed.
The trouble is when it gets weaponised. Narcissists and manipulators love it. They say something hurtful, and when you name how it landed for you, they reply, ‘It is your mirror, or you are just too sensitive.’ That is not self-reflection. It is finger pointing dressed up as wisdom.
Other people are not only reflections of you at times. They carry their own wounds and their own clutter. Sometimes what you see is genuinely theirs. An old proverb puts it well. ‘When you point one finger at someone there are, three fingers pointing back at you.’ Use the mirror to look within, without letting anyone hand it to you so they can avoid their own stuff.
Ask Yourself:
‘Is this showing something in me to look at, or something in them to step back from?’
