Is Our Soul Tired Or Something Else?
Do you feel tired to the point of exhaustion and every day feeling like you are walking knee deep in mud? So who is tired here: Your Soul or Your Ego?
If a soul is infinite, how can it be tired? or is it your thoughts, beliefs, habits, food that is running the show? Believing there is no relief and life is a drag. Looking forward to going away somewhere to get away from it all or drinking, smoking, drugs and whatever it takes to numb this feeling. Unless you understand where this tiredness/ resistance is, you will be living each day and hoping one day or someday life will get better.
Retirement is not for everyone; you can fall into the trap of thinking retirement is so much better than having a job where you are interacting and connecting with people daily. It can end up being another routine that is not fulfilling. The exception is getting up each day and doing what you love, and example could be gardening, coffee with friends, bike ride, golf or even working with timber, material and create projects that fill your heart.
“The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.” — Mike Murdock
I remember watching an episode of “I dream of Jeannie” where Jeannie blinks so every day to be Sunday because she wants her master to relax and have fun, The episode is called "Always on Sunday". Imagine waking up for every day to be Sunday, the same weather each day, doing the same thing Sunday after Sunday! After a while you would go stir crazy or want things to change.
When I saw this episode, it made me think about the seasons and the weather, if everyday had the same sunlight, temperature etc, there would be something missing in our lives. When its cloudy and raining some people would think this is great for the garden and they love the cool temperatures, and when the sun comes back people are grateful for the sunlight as it warms us or helps grow our garden. Back then I realised we all flourish when there is variety. The joke about Melbourne where you can experience every season in one day applies to this variety.
Wanting to do nothing is not at all wrong, it’s when it becomes a consistent habit where our body, and spirit starts to wither away metaphorically. Our ego tells us “I can’t be stuffed!” Our spirit is saying “Let’s do it, come on get up!”, it has no limitations. Feed our bodies with crappy food and the consequences is a body that is overweight and becomes limited with aches, pains and excuses. We become prisoners of our own bodies.
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” – Jim Rohn
Our thoughts, beliefs, habits and the people we hang around with, is also a consequence to the quality of our lives. I had someone tell me to stop working on myself and I’ve done more than enough. Luckily, I didn’t listen to him, since then I became a spiritual healer, soul-based therapist, hypnotherapist, counsellor, author and more. Is this person part of the 5 people I spend time with? I walked away from a friendship where I was manipulated, gaslit and pushed down so he could feel superior to me. The 5 people from 10 years ago are now non existent and I have a different supporting and loving friendships with these 5 people. two of them I’ve known for 43 and 50 years.
What is your ego telling you daily? what thoughts and feelings do you experience daily? do you live in the past? or do you still hold anger and resentment to people who did you wrong a long time ago? so my question to you is: “Is it possible for you to let this all go right now or can you let go 1 or 2% now?” and each day release more and more. Holding onto this crap makes you sick, tired and believing the shit you created in your head many years ago!
“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” — Buddha
Have you ever dimmed a light with a dimmer switch? The electricity flowing to the bulb stays the same in source, all the switch does is simply adjusts how much of that energy is released so the room grows softer or brighter. Your soul is like that steady source of power: infinite, steady energy. Living habits, self‑doubt, fear, and neglect act like dimmer switches; they don’t destroy your true light, they only limit how much of it shows. When you care for your body, mind, and spirit, through proper mental, physical and emotional rest with honest boundaries, meaningful work, and self‑compassion where you open the circuit and allow more of that inner energy to shine at full strength.
‘Shrinking so others won’t feel insecure helps no one.” - paraphrase of Marianne Williamson “Our Deepest Fear’ poem.
Have a great week!
